"Readers and others who study the cards seek to discover new meanings,
from the way the cards show up in readings and from a constant fresh look at the
pictures. They may improvise a great deal as they create new meanings on the
spot, from a reading, or in art, such as drawing or a collage they've decided to
make of a particular card. In other words, they are playing Tarot jazz. Like the
best jazz musicians, who always know the tradition, they ground themselves in a
thorough knowledge of the Kabbalah and other Tarot systems. But then they take
off from there."
