Sample Reading with the Tarot of Dreams by Ciro Marchetti
Reading by Diane Wilkes

The querent wanted a general reading. Since it was her birthday month, I decided to do a reading that explored her previous year in a way to build on her successes in the coming year.

Card One:      Past Successes - The Hermit, Reversed

Card Two:     Past Obstacles - Five of Coins, Reversed

Card Three:   Future Aspirations - Four of Cups, Reversed

Card Four:    Key to Success - Eight of Swords, Reversed

All of the cards came up reversed, which indicated to me that the querent had either been blocked or had been blocking herself from meeting her goals for herself.

Since all the cards were reversed, I am also providing a scan of the cards in their upright form for clarity.

Card One:      Past Successes - The Hermit, Reversed

The successes the querent had achieved in the past came from a two-step process. First, she does some inner work to gain insight and wisdom and then she brings it out into the world, as opposed to holding her own counsel. She clearly has a lot to offer and share with others, but may be more reflective than proactive in her personal life. It is only when she comes out of her meditative solitude that she achieves her goals, yet she could not achieve anything without that sacred quiet time. This card indicates to me that she needs to find a balance between her internalization process and what she brings to the outer world.

Card Two:     Past Obstacles - Five of Coins, Reversed

This suggests to me that the querent has had some financial hardships in her life that have impacted her on a deep level. I get the sense that, like Scarlett O'Hara, the querent has vowed "never to be hungry again" and will do whatever it takes not to feel deprived. I think that in recent years, she has honored that vow, but at some price to her soul, and has begun to break free of old feelings of constraint, and possibly, bitterness. I sense she has had some enjoyed some spiritual renewal, but needs to continue to escape old memories that no longer serve her. In combination with the Hermit, the querent may well be on a path of spiritual growth that sustains her, but also has her questioning some current life situations.

Card Three:   Future Aspirations - Four of Cups, Reversed

This card, in its reversed position, can mean finding a new focus, one that plays to the querent's emotional strengths and desires. Unlike many Four of Cups, this one has a roseate hue that suggests a fiery quotient mixed with the watery daydreaming this card can exhibit. There's a new option for the querent that is very appealing, but she must leave some things behind if she wants to take this fresh avenue. The physical strength of the man on the card tells me that the querent is not only physically able to make the changes she wants, but is, in fact, allowing some of her present potency to atrophy. Carpe diem could be this card's message for the querent.

Card Four:    Key to Success - Eight of Swords, Reversed

What the querent needs to do to succeed is simple--but not easy. She must remove herself from the protective bubble that she has built around herself, because it no longer serves its original purpose. What used to be a harbor is now a prison, one that may exist only in her mind--because it is of her own creation. It is time to burst that isolating bubble and share the gifts she has held inside for too long. This will lead to the success she seeks.
