Mountain Dream Tarot
This is a photographic deck that was published in 1975. It was produced over four years as a result of a dream photographer Bea Nettles had in 1975. The cards measure 4 1/2" X 3 11/16". The photographs are black and white, but each suit is a different shade. The Majors are plum-colored, Pentacles are black, Cups are maroon, Wands are a forest green and Swords are dark blue. The images are based on Waite's Pictorial Key to the Tarot.
The models are friends of the photographer's and the scenes are usually taken out of doors. Some of Pamela Colman-Smith's imagery is a bit difficult to recreate photographically, especially in the days before digital manipulation. However, the photographer was quite resourceful and was able to recreate some of the more difficult images using double exposure and other techniques. Examples include the Ten of Cups and Judgment. The costumes are generally simple, and the scenery and props are readily available places and objects. The Major Arcana have the card number in the top of the scene and the name in the bottom. The Minor Arcana have the number in the top and the Court Cards have the name in the bottom. There is a border around each card in the color for the suit. The backs are blue with pink stars.
There is no little booklet with this deck. It has a fold-out sheet that provides a bit of background information on the creation of the deck and some correspondences for each suit. There are no card meanings given. The deck is packaged in a two piece box. This deck is out of print.
