Portraits of Pips by Elizabeth Hazel
This is the fifteenth in a series of "portraits" of the Minor Arcana, written in Liz's unique style. All cards are inspired by and illustrated with the Vala Tarot, a deck designed and illustrated by Elizabeth Hazel.
Spring is awakening, the sun rising golden over the meadow.
As verdant earth arises, so does spirit, and awareness is sparked to
life. The crisp morning air smells
of newness; of daffodils and crocus bravely challenging the lingering snow.
Life’s spirit is infused into the dawn’s warming light – neither
man nor creature can resist its inspiration.
The ardent wanderer stands alone here, tending the bonfire, feeding the
flames as he feeds his hopes and dreams. The
glowing flames send smoke as a message to the gods of day, a prayer of honor and
a wish for illumination in all things.
It is time to play, time to rise to the surface of the water and offer a goblet to the waves. The mermaids sing to the gulls and seals of the merry life below, of merparties and merbanquets, of treasures hidden in the deep pockets of the ocean. Their voices are raised in harmonious song, accompanied by the cascading waves and roaring sea lions. The joy of company, the laughter of friends, and the pleasure of visiting are theirs to share – they call to their friends to join them in the playful waves, the graceful daughters of Nereus and the sea nymphs.
