This deck is basically a re-do of the Enchanted Tarot deck. This version is much smaller than the Enchanted deck at 3 7/8" X 2 1/4" (the Enchanted cards measure 5 3/8" X 3"). The colors are also darker, probably due to the printing process used. A few cards, specifically Justice, the Two and Princess of Swords and the Four and Five of Hearts, have had the colors changed slightly, usually from blue to purple or vice versa. The smaller size was accomplished by cropping the majority of each scene from the original card. This entailed eliminating the colored border entirely and cropping details from the corners and edges of each scene in many cases as well. Additional scenery was lost by placing a colored banner with the name of the card and the suit symbol on the bottom of each card. The white border which contained the card name in the Enchanted Tarot was eliminated completely.

I have reviewed the Enchanted Tarot on this site before, so there is no need for me to rehash that information. I will add that I prefer the larger Enchanted deck. Amy Zerner's art work is quite detailed and intricate and deserves as large a palette as possible in order to be appreciated. However, if you have small hands or prefer a smaller deck for portability or some other reason, this might be just what you are looking for. One caveat: the card stock is thin and has a flimsy, cardboard feel to it. This deck can be bought alone, or as a part of a set called the Instant Tarot Reader.

The little booklet that comes with the stand alone deck is printed in lavender ink on white glossy paper making it somewhat difficult to read in sections where a smaller font was used. It is a little more substantial than most booklets of this type beginning with the authors theories on the Tarot - how it can be used and why it works. This is followed by instructions on how to do a simple one card reading. The author's premise is that most questions are one of two types - what one needs to know about a situation (the message), or what the outcome of actions or an event will be. The interpretations provided in the little booklet answer these two questions. Each card has a "message" interpretation and an "outcome" interpretation. The author also recommends you acquire the Enchanted Tarot Deck Set for more in-depth interpretations. The little booklet also provides instructions for the Celtic Cross Spread.
